Ready for a fresh start?!

Ready for a Fresh Start?!

Each month, I deliver a fresh, feminist-inspired, creative marketing email to your inbox...Let's dive in!

We all crave those fresh starts, don't we? That feeling of a clean slate, a chance to reinvent ourselves or our businesses. It's no wonder that 'new year, new me' is such a popular mantra.

This desire for a fresh start is deeply rooted in our psychology.

Our brains are wired to see new beginnings as opportunities for growth and change. We associate them with optimism, motivation, and a sense of possibility. As a business owner, tapping into this psychology can be incredibly powerful.

Try to think about how you can position your offers as a vehicle for those fresh starts.

But let's ditch the "new year, new you" clichés (because *bleh* we don't need any more diet culture) and tap into something deeper. Your clients aren't looking for quick fixes or empty promises.

What can you offer them that will truly make a difference in their lives? Maybe you're a therapist who can guide clients through an emotional breakthrough, or you're a hairstylist who gives women a confidence boost with the snip of your scissors.

Whatever it is you offer, I want you to remember that your contribution to helping others is worthy of being seen, celebrated, and shared with the world.

You're not just offering a service. You're facilitating transformation. You're empowering women to step into their power, own their worth, and make a real difference in the lives of others. And that, bootstrapper, deserves to be shouted from the rooftops!

I'm dedicating this month to my own fresh start! I've spent the last couple of months simplifying my offers and getting crystal clear on who I want to work with, so this month, I'm taking steps to reflect that in my online presence.

I updated my website copy and have hired a talented copywriter to add their expertise. Soon, I'll update my brand photos and website, of course!

My fresh start didn't happen on January 1st, but I'm leaning into this month's energy to improve my brand. I can't wait!

Are you leaning into the energy of the new year (it's okay if you aren't too)?! Email me back. I want to know what you've got planned! If you're feeling stuck, I highly recommend you join our next Office Hours event. It's 100% free...PITCH FREE!

Brand Visibility Tip of the Month

Perfectionism is a dream killer.

I say this as a recovering perfectionist myself.

All it does is keep you stuck in the dreaming, planning, and tweaking stage. It feels safe there, right?

But staying there prevents you from actually putting yourself out there...it stops you from becoming visible.

Think about it: have you been putting off writing that blog post because you're not sure anyone will read it? Or maybe you're too scared to pitch yourself as a podcast guest because you aren't seen an expert (yet)?

You don't become a well known expert in your field without starting from nowhere. You don't become a successful brand without trying, failing, and trying again.

Just look at Oprah...who was fired from her first TV anchor job for being "too emotional." Yes, that's the same woman who embraced her authentic self, built a media empire, and has become one of the most influential women on the planet.

You don't have to have goals of becoming Oprah level famous, but you do have to take chances on being seen to make money with your business.

I'm going to be real with you here...becoming visible can feel uncomfortable. But it also gets easier as you go.

When I launched my first book, Body Positive, my publisher set me up for a virtual media tour (becauseeeee it was during the pandemic). I had to go on live radio shows and dozens of podcasts with all kinds of personalities! I met with big names like Dove and spent hours pitching myself to major influencers and media publications.

It was scary AF.

But it was rewarding. I sold thousands of books, which were promoted by some of my favourite influencers AND I was published in publications like Huff Post, Today's Parent, and Scary Mommy!

This never would have happened if I didn't TRY.

You will get a lot of "no's" or non-responses. You will get ghosted. You will think that all your hard work isn't paying off until...it does.

So my advice to you this January is to START. Just try one new thing. Get scrappy. Get vulnerable. Get ready to be disappointed more often than not...but remember to email me next January to tell me everything you have accomplished by putting yourself out there.

Just start.

Stuff You Should Care About

There is still a lot going on in the world for women. Lots of work needs to be done! But, as bell hooks said, "rest is a form of resistance." My goal for this month is to take care of my own well-being. I won't be sharing any worldly feminist causes or news this month because I've been feeling burnt out with what's happening in the world.

I hope you know that it's okay to take a break from whatever it is that plagues your mind. Rest up, bootstrapper! You will be stronger because of it.

I Love Me from A to Z Board Book: I will keep sharing that my inclusive children's book is coming out in February! You can grab a digital copy of I Love Me from A to Z for FREE here (you just need to set up an account) or pre-order it here!

Thank you so much for reading and giving me space in your inbox! I am so grateful for you.

A few weeks ago, I found myself in an unexpected situation that made my heart race a little.
